How to Help Haiti in the Aftermath of Hurricane Matthew

With the news that Hurricane Matthew has made landfall in Haiti, there are concerns that this category 4 storm will threaten to devastate the already impoverished nation. Many of us are asking how we can help.

Over the past several years, we’ve had the great honor of working with LiveBeyond to support their efforts to bring medical care, maternity health, clean water, orphan care and other services to people in Haiti. According to John Locke, LiveBeyond’s U.S. Operations Director, in the aftermath of Hurricane Matthew, funding for food distribution is the most pressing and immediate need.

HAITI UPDATE: Hurricane Matthew made landfall on the coast of Haiti, around 7 a.m. ET, according to the National Hurricane Center. Heavy rains and damaging winds continue across the country today.

In the hurricane’s aftermath, crop devastation on farms and in family gardens is expected to be widespread. These are the main sources of food and livelihood for locals in our region. The LiveBeyond team begins food distribution this afternoon to meet an immediate need.
