Premier, Inc., a healthcare performance improvement alliance of hospitals and other providers, recently released its “Spring 2016 Economic Outlook,” examining emerging economic and industry trends affecting health system executives.
One significant finding from the survey, as noted in a recent Healthcare IT News article, is that 95% of executives reported they will be prioritizing the expansion and integration of post-acute networks as a key focus over the next three years.
The article acknowledges Health IT is “an essential enabler of this task,” and the Premier survey shows that health systems are continuing to allocate a significant capital investment in technology. But while many have already made sizeable investments in implementing electronic health records (EHRs), managing care will require a system of engagement requiring technology most healthcare organizations don’t currently have in place.
The report also shows that the disparate software systems providers use today are rarely connected, slowing efforts to improve efficiencies. Report findings make it clear healthcare organizations will need to focus their technology investments on more scalable, flexible, readily adaptable systems that provide a “single source of truth” across the entire system.
